Commonwealth Heritage Group is a full-service cultural resource management (CRM) consulting firm with over 25 years of experience. We specialize in large- and small-scale CRM, landscape architecture, and historic preservation projects.

We have developed an outstanding reputation with our clients and regulatory agencies for understanding the intricacies of CRM planning, permitting and project implementation. Our talented, dedicated staff of specialists is experienced in the full range of cultural resource studies, including testing and evaluation for National Register of Historic Places nominations or Section 106 determinations of eligibility; data recovery to mitigate the impact of construction; preparation of cultural resource management planning documents; planning and design for historic landscapes, preparation of National Register nominations or determinations of eligibility; and other services to place clients in compliance with cultural resource legislation.

Commonwealth Heritage Group is prequalified by Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), and Idaho Department of Transportation (ITD), with areas including for archaeology, historic architecture, reconnaissance and intensive level survey, and Section 106/4(f) documentation. Commonwealth also works with a number of other transportation departments on a regular basis.

 

Decades of Experience and Excellence

Commonwealth Heritage Group was founded in Jackson, Michigan, in 1988. We began with the mission of assisting industry and government planning agencies in the identification and documentation of archaeological and historical resources. Subsequently incorporated in the State of Michigan in 1992, Commonwealth Heritage Group eventually established branch offices in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Buffalo, New York. Since then, the firm has been growing strong through acquisition. In 2009, Commonwealth Heritage Group acquired Coastal Carolina Research based out of Tarboro, NC. In 2012, we acquired Sagebrush Consultants based out of Ogden, UT, and in 2014 we acquired John Milner Associates (JMA) with offices in West Chester, PA; Charlottesville, VA; Alexandria, VA; and Littleton, MA.
